Digital School Project & Showcase
Some of our Year 5 pupils have been working hard over the last 4 months to create a documentary about Mountain Ash.  The film was planned, scripted, storyboards designed and produced by the children with the help of their class in the decision making process.   The children then got to go to the Tram Shed in Cardiff for a cinema screen showing of their magnificent film.  Have a look at the film on the link below...Da Iawn Dosbarth 5!

September 8th 2016
The school is delighted to be involved in this year's Tour of Britain.
Key Stage 2 pupils have been asked to support Stage 5 of the Tour, which starts from Aberdare Park.
We have been rehearsing hard in the lead up to the event this week.

Years 1 and 2 had an amazing time watching the Tour of Britain passing through Mountain Ash. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the team cars driving past, beeping and waving at us, the police driving past and putting their sirens on for us, then finally the spectacular sight that is the almost 200 cyclists taking part in the Tour of Britain. It was an unbelievable experience and I'm sure the children (and excitable staff) will remember it for a long time. The children were, as always, impeccably behaved. We must also thank Mrs Morgan and the parent volunteers who made the trip possible - diolch yn fawr iawn!

Due to unforeseen building work during our summer holidays,
school will now reopen for all pupils on Monday 5th September.
Sorry for any inconvenience this change has caused.
Many Thanks for your understanding.

Thank you to Steve and the gang, friends of Mrs Morgan - they kindly donated some wooden crates from their workplace. Being the Green Flag School that we are, the Eco Committee have recycled them into new raised beds for the garden. A big thank you to Mr Clement for building them.

Here are some photos of them in action:

We've even planted our giant onions in them already and look forward to planting some more soon.

4th June 2015 - Eco Committee visit Bryn Pica Recycling Centre

The Eco Committee and myself enjoyed a morning out at Bryn Pica Recycling Centre this week. We weren't sure what to expect (apart from a few smells) but we had a fantastic morning and learnt a great deal about how recycling works in our local environment.

We learnt about all the things that can and cannot be recycled. If you're unsure - come and ask us!

Did you know...
  • When plastic is recycled it can be made into a fleece blanket?
  • Tyres can be recycled and turned into pencil cases and the soft flooring we often see in parks?
  • The United Kingdom produces enough rubbish to fill the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff TWICE A DAY?

The smelly bit didn't ruin our morning either. wink
We travelled in style (a 4x4) through the landfill site and witnessed first hand the massive amount of rubbish that we produce here in South Wales EVERY DAY.

In order to keep pests at bay, a 'Birdman' flies birds of prey to make sure the seagulls don't pick up rubbish and drop it elsewhere, like on our beaches.

If you'd like to know more about all the things we learnt, then please see the Eco Committee who would love to tell you all about it.

Here are some photos of the morning:

A sad site - lots of food waste that has not been put into food bins and so now needs to rot away on the landfill. Very smelly indeed!!
