Croeso Y Dosbarth 4 :)

Miss Churchouse and Mrs Woods

Our topic this term is: Gods and Mortals
Our reading days are: Thursday and Friday (All children need to bring their books on these days).
Our PE day: Wednesday (This term we are doing swimming. Children need to bring a swimming costume or short swimming shorts and a towel every week).

Gods and Mortals Immersion Day
To introduce our new topic, Gods and Mortals, we took part in an immersion day alongside dosbarth 3. On this day we carried out a variety of activities to do with our new topic. These included; Greek food tasting, researching Greek God's, painting Greek pottery, Making Toga's, translating the Greek alphabet and much more. We also generated questions that we wanted to find the answers to through our learning this term.

ICT/DCF Curriculum Morning
On Wednesday 7th February we invited our parents into school to see what we get up to when using technology in school. Miss Thomas gave the parents a talk about how we use technology and some rules about keeping safe online. The parents then came into class and we explored 5 different activities with them. These were; creating algorithms and testing our algorithms out with the Bee Bots and debugging them if we needed to, using J2E to create bar charts for a range of data we collected about the class's favourite sports and sharing this online, Using the iPad app Pic Collage to create Internet Safety posters and sharing them on SeeSaw, Using SeeSaw to film ourselves acting out a scenario about internet safety and peer assessing other children's work, and using Active Learn Maths to practice our maths skills though a range of games and investigations. We had a great time sharing what we do in Dosbarth 4 and hope you enjoyed learning about what we do too!

Our topic in autumn term was: Flow
Our reading days are: Thursday and Friday (All children need to bring their books on these days).
Our PE day: Wednesday (This term we are doing gymnastics. Children need to wear shorts if possible so that they do not slip when using the equipment).

Anti-bullying Week
From Monday 13th November until Friday 17th November we celebrated Anti-bullying week by carrying out a range of tasks and activities to get us thinking about the effects of bullying. We celebrated ourselves as individuals and explored what made us unique, as well as discussing why it is good to be different. We also created a range of anti-bullying strategies for us to use in school and at home to prevent bullying happening in the future. Take a look at some of the activities we did below:

Bully Balloons
We created bully balloons at the start of the week and wrote something bad that we had done or said to someone else. During the week we thought about the affects of these words and actions and at the end of the week we popped our balloon to get rid of these elements of bullying in our classroom.

Our Trip to Welsh Water
On Wednesday 27th September we took a trip to Welsh Water. We explored lots of different things to do with water throughout the day including; the water cycle, river flow, creatures that live in the River Taff, how Welsh Water get water from the River Taff to our houses, how they clean the dirty water and how they treat it so we can drink it.

 Miss Griffiths and Mr Hollidge

We've had such a fantastic week for Science Week. We've spent a lot of time learning about how to be as healthy as we can be.

In class for Science open afternoon, some parents and grandparents joined us to learn about the job of the Heart and how to keep it healthy. We created our own songs to the tune of Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes and loved performing them to our class and hearing our friend's feedback.

Here are some photos of our groups:

We've had a busy few weeks celebrating Harvest, performing in the Harvest concert and
cooking a lovely soup with fresh vegetables. Everyone enjoyed peeling and chopping, even Arthur with his good arm gave the soup a really good stir, a very important job! The children peeled and chopped potatoes, sweet potatoes and a butternut squash. They enjoyed the soup with some fresh crusty bread.....yum!
.Even with one good arm Arthur gave the soup a good stir, a very important job!Chop, Chop, last few pieces of butternut squash.

Welcome back to our lovely new Year 4 children! We hope you had a fantastic summer and are ready to work hard and have some fun. I'm very excited about my move to Year 4 and we're very lucky to have the support of Mr Hollidge. cheeky

?PE day will be on a Friday and will be taken by Mrs Woods. PE kits must be brought to school every week - the children are welcome to leave these in school for the half term to ensure they don't forget them on a weekly basis.

Home reading books will be changed every Friday.
The children have been told which two days the green book and home reading book need to be brought to school (in addition to the Friday book changing session). One day will be when they read with me and the other with Mr Hollidge.

If there is anything myself or Mr Hollidge can do, please pop in to see us.
